What we stand for
Yasmar Development Action Group was formed by local residents in response to a State Significant Development proposal to build four high-rise towers (200 apartments) on the Eastern side of the Yasmar estate.
Our Approach
We support housing that respects the character of the area, protects residents’ amenity, and preserves the environmental qualities that define Haberfield. New development should deliver genuine improvements to transport and community facilities — not just larger buildings.
We fully acknowledge the Land Council’s right to determine land use, pursue economic self‑determination, and provide housing. Our objection is narrowly focused on the physical scale, layout, and design of the proposed development.
As local residents with no political agenda, we champion responsible progress that honours the area’s architectural and cultural history. Development of this scale exceeds what existing planning controls were intended to accommodate, particularly when community participation is limited.
We advocate for a calibrated, lower‑height alternative that still delivers returns and housing opportunities for the Land Council while achieving a better balance between modern land rights and the preservation of State Heritage values.
